[Well, as some of you might recall, Haruki Suzumiya has been MIA for the better part of this whole affair so far. But now, finally, he's made a full recovery. A full recovery and... he's gone back to his house to confirm that things have recovered. He's inspecting it inside and out so you might happen across him during that, particularly if you're Neku or Shiki.

But aside from that, after he's half-way through this inspection he flips open the journal and-]

Oi, guys, I'm back. [...It's useless to say "did he miss anything" right? Just glancing at the entries while he was out shows he did] So everyone report in.

Well. I mean... [...ERR] ...Well I'll tell you- [..!] That story about a girl I loved, there's more to it!

[OH MY GOD DID HE ACTUALLY JUST SAID THAT OH MY GODDDDD]

Well I just. What- that's- what-

[LOOK OFF TO THE LEFT, BLUSHING]

I mean, where would you like me to start?

I dunno, wherever. [STILL NO EYE CONTACT God this is weird]

Would you like to hear about my parents?

Yeah. Sure. If you'll tell me.

[He stopped putting pieces but he turns... interested. He never did hear it. He thinks]

They were doctors. Together we lived in a small countryside town called Resembool. But one day they had to leave our little town. They were called away to aid in a war that started to devour the southern area of Amestris. I watched their backs helplessly as they left.

My Mom and Dad... they never did return. I found out that they had be treating victims from both sides of the war. For that a state alchemist was ordered to kill them for treason.

[...But that's- That's awful, frankly. Haruki's mouth is slightly open and he feels it drying up. He'd- he'd never figured Winry had a past like that. But...]

[...] Sounds like they were pretty awesome people, in that case.

Yeah. I like to think that too.

So up until then I was a normal girl. I was ridiculed for my skin, eyes, and hair, but my friends were enough to keep me happy.

So that's a little about me. And you?

[Haruki looks dully at the board. Really, in light of that bombshell he didn't think about... well. He moves his own pawn in the same row up two as well.]

...Well. I left off with her vanishing from here, right?

[First a frown... and then he sighs before pinching his nose a little with his hand. God this is so hard. ...Finally he settles for just glaring down at the chessboard, focusing away from Winry at large before he starts talking]

...Well. Like I said, she vanished. I was really upset, I guess. Ignored a bunch of people, didn't want to hear about other people's problems, you know that sort of thing. Eventually, ...well I guess I didn't snap out of it so much as drifted. This other girl - the one I live with now, Shiki? She was also hurting; lost her boyfriend, you know. ...We moved in together.

That's not the end, is it?

...Nah, not really. [And he, screwing the rules, picks up his own king piece. He begins to roll this in his hand. He sighs and shakes his head]

It was weird, you know. Really weird. We... kissed. Some other stuff, but nothing big... I guess. Her boyfriend showed up again before anything too serious happened. But I... fell for her. A little. I think. Maybe.

[He's still confused about that himself, he never even got closure] In the midst of that though, there was also Rena... Well. I dunno if you ever met her; she used to live here, used to be my vice-chief... I think I might have liked her. ...Maybe. But she's gone too.

That... must have been really hard for you.

I... guess. I stopped thinking about it after a while. I mean, other things happened too- Uriko asked me out, sorta. I rejected her. And then there was that thing with Usagi... well I guess I always kinda liked her. But I doubt it was romantic ever. But well...

[...] This last February I kinda. [...] Made a mistake.

[Hie voice dropped down to utter shame at that point. Down to a whisper]

A mistake?

[Yeah. He... hangs his head blushing furiously and perhaps looking more ashamed than Winry's probably ever seen him. He looks like, given the chance he would make a truly sincere apology and even then still worry. That sort of sorry]

...Yeah. A big one.
