Many of you have been now seen the flier that my secretary produced, and as such there is no obligation to give us any introduction even for the ignorant, but in favor of those who might not be able to read, I shall generously provide one anyway-

We, the Spreading Excitement All Over the World with Haruki Suzumiya Brigade come to you with a simple but eloquent purpose! Namely, the SOS-Brigade is looking into the mysteries of this world! People who have experienced something mysterious in the past, have experienced something mysterious recently, or who plan on a mysterious experience in the near future should come to the SOS Brigade for them be solved! This offer stands open to any of you! It is impossible to miss out HQ in the square of town, so step forward there if you have such a mystery for us to look into! After all, such a think is necessary in order to ensure that people live a worthwhile life.

I suppose it's true what they say about times changing but people remaining essentially the same. Just from attitude I could have thought you were from my same time.

Almost everyone here is probably from your future if they're from Earth. The 90s are popular but plenty of people are from around my time too.

The 90s? I'm barely starting the 80s, way to make me feel old.

You can't just come talking about so far in the future and don't expect me to worry about it. I'm a man, a man's family is his responsibility, no matter what age or where in the thousand universes he is.

By the way, I haven't asked yet, hasn't the medicine for the Hinamizawa syndrome popped around here or anything?

Not really. Or at least, I assume Rika would have gone straight for that, had there been.

I hate the idea but, you think we could ask the Malnosso about it? And Rena wouldn't take it, but then again she doesn't really need it, she's quite a special case, she can go back to where the syndrome is inoffensive. She doesn't need to take shoots daily to keep herself sane like Satoko did.

But I meant it as some extra security. If Rena or me were to reach the highest level of the syndrome the medicine should be able to knock us down to a middle level. At least if what I remember of how it works is right, it wouldn't be bad if you had access to it just in case.

[I'm sure of that, but what if he isn't there? Or something happens... And what if Rena or me are drafted? Stress is the main trigger of the syndrome, a battlefield would bring us to a critical point in the best case... Well in my case maybe it would be better to just let me die then and hope for me to be stable when returned.]

Uh... I just thought it could be the easiest solution.

Anyway, I'll ask that old man if my name gets out for the draft. I suppose taking the medicine twice each day while I'm there should avoid the problem.
