Rivals Relationships
Original Character: ■■■■■■■□□□ ( ••• / ♥♥ / ◊◊◊◊ ) [Real; Scary (Rape accepted as a reality)] Paru is a very difficult girl that whole Haruki instantly didn't like very much he was also instantly very interested in. He wanted to know what made this awful but brilliant girl tick and why she was the way she was. He learned far too much about her far too fast and for that Haruki paid the price of Paru's hatred and anger towards him. Despite being rejected and kicked in the head, Haruki does not consider his relationship with Paru to be completely severed. Ideally, he would like to patch things up with her, but he both doesn't like her very much and he is scared of her to some extent because of, well, being kicked in the head by her and receiving a mild concussion. As a side note he's not convinced she's a lesbian too. Much of what he "knows" about Paru's past he gained from interactions with a younger version of her that he met in Luceti once upon a time. For information on that younger girl and his opinions on her, see here.
Harry Potter series: ■■■■□□□□□□ ( •• / ♥♥ / ◊◊◊ ) [Real; Mundane] Mostly because of school Haruki and Hermione have a competitively antagonistic relationship. Neither of them is by any means stupid but they both are polar opposites on key parts of their personality such that both annoy each other senseless... or at least Hermione annoys Haruki enough that he's willing to go out of his way to harass her sometimes. That said, despite this, he doesn't know her particularly well and he is aware of this fact. He feels he owes her one for contributing for the birth of Sekai as well... even if pride will never let him admit it.
Persona 3: [Bad username or site: emp3thy title= @ livejournal.com] ■■■■■■■■□□ ( ••• / ♥ / ◊◊◊◊ ) [Real; Scary (Personas accepted as a reality)] Haruki considers Minato to be something close to a friend, but sincerely dislikes him. He doesn't like almost anything about Minato's approach to life and relationships - let alone death - but he is absurdly envious of him. A bipolar relationship between emotional opposites, it was perhaps predestined that Minato and him should have ended up as in as stormy of situation as they did. They have argued over many people close to Haruki: over Shiki and later over Rena. He fully expects that down the line they will argue about others too. However, in spite of this and in spite of how much he just wants to punch Minato at times (and indeed, he has before in the past) he wouldn't wish the boy entirely out of his life ever. It's unclear even to him why he values the blue haired wonder-boy around, but perhaps it is that he is so envious that Minato through what he sees as only minimal effort is able to win people over to his side. Haruki one day would like to have a skill like that. ...And, truth be told, Minato girlfriend Aigis vanishing as well as his outlook on his own death of made him pity the guy more than he should.
Avatar: The Last Airbender: ■■■■■■■■□□ ( •••• / / ◊◊ ) [Real; Mundane] Of all people in Luceti, it is probably a fact that there is no one that at any given thing Haruki would rather defeat than Sokka. He's not even sure when it happened, but somewhere along the line the annoying idiot who ran the smithy and seemed to be too good to be true in some senses became someone he was desperate to show up in any way possible. This rivalry was only escalated further when Winry was one of his friends, something that they came to argue about. Similarly, Haruki's relationship with Paru further tainted the relationship between him and Sokka. In the end though, Haruki does not hate Sokka, nor is he quite as envious of the boy as he has been of other people, such as Senel in the past. No, Sokka is unique in that while Haruki doesn't care overly much about the skills that Sokka is better at him in, he does care quite a bit about any comparison made between them. Sokka might almost be a friend at times, but before that he is a rival, one of Haruki's few real ones. Through association with an AU version of Sokka, Haruki did grow to understand and appreciate the original one better. Information about the AU can be read about here.
