Shiki might not be the longest-lasting friend Haruki's had or even the one he's opened himself the most to by choice, but she is his best friend without any question. A bond formed through need and proximity, Shiki has lived with Haruki in his house for a long time now and he's gotten used to her as a part of his life. While initially a rebound for the recently dispatched Kyonko - a feeling which, for the record, has never completely dissipated - she developed meaning in his life all her own and is now of extreme importance to daily life in Luceti. Someone he can depend on when he needs to and someone who will tell him when he needs to depend on her. Someone he is willing to protect and wants to to be with. As stated before, she is a truly valued friend. She's also created for him some items he holds dear now, such as Brack the plush dinosaur. He likes her real body better than Eri's.

Shiki's Boyfriend (plus possible homolust)

Neku, Shiki's boyfriend, was someone thrust into Haruki's life against his well, someone he still genuinely resents, but also one of his most steadfast and truest friends. Initially, Haruki was convinced he would never like the other boy, despite Shiki's efforts to try to claim both of them at the same time initially. As time wore on though, it became clear Haruki had lost already and once the "race" ended, he was content to allow Neku, a boy who he had found a grudging fair-ground with, to take the reigns of dating his new best friend. No small part of why Haruki is able to trust Neku with his is the time they spent playing Minamimoto's insane game as partners when he kidnapped Shiki. During that time, seeing how capable Neku could be when the push came to shove, he developed a slight hint of admiration, or at least acceptance. Neku might be an annoying porcupine, but he is now and forever, to Haruki, House 10's annoying porcupine.

I have shared more of myself with you than anyone else

Haruki is in love with Winry, let's just start there. Against all his expectations and perhaps even his will, over the course of the a little over a year he got to know Winry, he got to be friends with Winry, he crushed on her, and eventually he fell in love with her. However, unlike Shiki and perhaps some others, Winry wasn't a reaction to Kyonko's vanishing. Winry was someone that Haruki fell in love with despite his past and despite any other outside influences. And important distinction because now that he'd confessed to her and she to him, he's decided to grab the bull by the horns, so to speak, and date her in a way that he with Kyonko proved incapable of. He's older and more mature now, confident that he can be the person he wants to be and develop the relationship he wants to with Winry. Indeed, largely, he already has.

While he might have shared more with the likes of Shiki or know the likes of Leon longer than Winry, it is with her that Haruki has voluntarily shared the most of himself. Without any outside circumstances forcing him, Haruki has explained to her is love history, the baseball game story, the fact that he's God, the true meaning of the Closed Space, and many other secrets that he would normally keep locked inside him for fear of letting others see. In turn, he has asked more of Winry than almost anyone else, all the way up to selfishly confessing shortly after Edward Elric - a boy he knew or at least suspected that she loved - has vanished from Luceti. Surprised in part at the conclusion of the events which followed that incident, Haruki is nonetheless overjoyed to know that someone he loves as deeply as he does Winry is capable of reciprocating his feelings. He knows there will be challenges, but for once he feels confident that he's willing to face them.

"Friend" (plus wanna tap it)

Persona 3: [Bad username or site: amazingasa1ways title= @ livejournal.com]

[Real; Scary (executions accepted as a fate worse than death)]

Mitsuru is Haruki's "friend" because of the definition he applied to her after she saved him from likely being severely injured if not killed by Paru in the aftermath of him going to apologize to her for gaining information on her past while she was a child. However, Mitsuru is a long and fast companion of Haruki's simply because of the time they have spent together. Even if they are nominally friends, he is nowhere near as close to her as he is to any of the other people he calls or considers his friends outside of the Brigade.

Despite this, she is important to him and is someone that, if nothing else, he sincerely wants to impress. He wants to be acknowledged by her and more than anything else wants her to start calling him by his first name. Despite this goal, he has made numerous mistakes with her and knows it: the most dire of them (making out with her while she was AU'd into a moe-monster) lead to his Execution. He doesn't consider their relationship damaged as a result of this due to fair exchange, but he also is hesitant to try to push too hard too quickly after being frozen solid before.

Not quite his, not quite not

Luka was originally a curious but extremely interesting anomaly in Haruki's life born of being the "Master" of her brother, KAITO. However, now that KAITO is long gone from Luceti, Haruki is forced to think of Luka in different terms. The term he decided on, in spite of the complications it gave, was "friend." While he still looks at Luka very differently than he might a human (seeing her more often than not in terms of her uses) he does see her as a "friend" and considers the fact that he sees her uses as beneficial to relations with a being designed to serve.

Really, Haruki suspects a lot of things about Luka: he suspects that she might love him (just a little) but that might be playing out his fantasies, he suspects than she only calls him Master to humor him, and most of all he suspects that Luka can and would do anything to help him out even if he's not sure he would return the favor. In spite of these complications and this odd detachment, he does sincerely like the singing android. Enough that he was the one who found her a real Master (Adell), even. Haruki has met two of Luka's alternate personalities, his opinions of them are detailed here.
