Magic or time-travel or aliens or esper-powers or slider-powers or something. I mean you can live the most "interesting" mundane life ever but at least a thousand other people are probably living the exact same life somewhere else.

You can't live exactly the same as someone else.

You average professional baseball stadium in Japan seats like.. thirty-five thousand, give or take. If even twenty-five thousand of those are filled, you feel like just a tiny ant in comparison: there's so many people. Way more than are at your school, or that you could ever know personally. Way more than have been in your family until you go back generations.

The population of Japan this last year - '06, I mean - was something like... [And here he thinks for a moment before coming up with the oddly almost-specific:] 127460000-something. Taking that from the 25000... That baseball stadium is only about 0.02% of the population of Japan.

In all that people, if you're tiny as compared to only 0.02% of Japan's population, then taking that into account the world...? It's nothing. And in that many people:

I mean, let's say you score big on the slots or something, win a million yen. There's probably some other person doing the same thing on the other side of the country.

But the person on the other side of the country doesn't know your friends and family. He's not the one important to them.

So? He has his own friends and family; more of the same.

That's the point, Haruki-kun.

You can't know everyone on the planet, but that doesn't mean you're worthless. You have an impact on the people around you just by living.

Yeah and where's that impact go beyond them? It doesn't make it the least bit unique 'cus everyone's like that.
