CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Haruki Suzumiya
Series: Haruhi Suzumiya series
Canon Point: Post-Someday In the Rain (though also a lot of time in Luceti))
History Link: Link.

AU/OC History: More or less exactly as canon other than the sex/genders of all the relevant characters being reversed. That is to say:
Haruhi -> Haruki
Mikuru -> Mitsuru
Itsuki -> Itsuko
Yuki -> Yuuki
Kyon is still Kyon because it's a nickname, albeit now "Kyon-chan" instead of Kyon-kun or sometimes "Kyonko" to members of the Brigade, particularly Haruki

This reversal applies to all characters except very minor ones (such as the teacher, Okabe) or ones which it might be awkward to have the sex/gender reversed on (such as I still waffle on the fence with the Tamaru brothers and Arakawa/Mori). This means that other side/minor characters (Tsuruya, Kyon's sister; now his brother, the Computer Club President, Kunikida, Taniguchi, etc) are also the other sex/gender.

I say "exactly" the same, but because of them being different sex/genders certain events will play out differently by definition. For one, Haruki is somewhat less physically forceful than Haruhi - a girl being forceful (such as molesting/undressing Mikuru) is more acceptable/expected so in Haruki's case it's usually a matter of intimidation/glares (he is after all exceptionally tall for a Japanese person at 5'9 in canon and 5'10 now) and forceful language. Other members of Group Dynamics are also somewhat different, such as whole Mitsuru is still the primary dress up doll and in the maid costume (cross-dressed), for purposes like the bunny costume or other things like that, Itsuko is sometimes put into it as well (rarely, Kyon as well, but that's rarely).

Some other incidents which are different include that during the events of Lone Island Syndrome Haruki would have needed to meet Kyon's parents to allow their daughters to get permission to go on the trip (he passed with flying colors, to Kyon's amazement) and during the events of Melancholy because of gender-roles playing such a big part in the finale it was not Kyon telling Haruki something she found appealing in him (Kyon telling her that she looks good in a pony tail is canon) but rather Kyon doing something to appeal to Haruki (letting down her hair, because he has a fetish for long straight hair). Similarly, other more minor events would play out differently: Mitsuru's "molestation" at the hands of the Computer Club would be relying on them being crazed fujoshi by reputation (and him being shirtless with the president on top of him) or that Kyon would not have quite as much physical labor demanded of her as her canon counterpart (usually, that would be shoved on a combination of her and Yuuki, though she does still get menial tasks) and during some of the early arcs instead of Haruhi's trademark tie-pull, it would be a ponyail-pull, though Haruki quickly grew out of that, having stopped by summer break.

Most other events up until his canon point (post-November, so following the arc at the cultural festival (Live Alive and Day of Sagittarius) as well as the anime's Someday in the Rain) go relatively/very similar to canon events within minor exception though, because some of the stuff which gets very gender-roley (Disappearance and Intrigues in particular) hasn't happened for him yet, despite all his time in Luceti.

Game Import: Haruki is coming in with memories from [community profile] luceti, where he was for a total of 29 months, about a year and a half. During his time there a great many experiments and Shifts happened, as well as the onset of a war, numerous interpersonal issues, kidnappings, and a wide myriad of other things which changed him as a person. It's not fair to say he's been traumatized per se, but he now does have a series of triggers due to some more serious events - he hates death explicitly due to seeing Usagi Tsukino die rather violently, and will do whatever he can to ensure people he cares about are out of harms way. He hates outright violence or use of force to get things now because of some bad experiences with Senel Coolidge, among others. He's trained in self-defense but considers himself a non-combatant for this reason.

During his time in Luceti he founded a branch of the SOS-Brigade there. Over time it's had a wide variety of members for various lengths of time (usually people only left when they dropped) including Usagi Tsukino (Sailor Moon, a long time member), Excellen Browning (Super Robot Wars), Leon D.S. Geeste (Star Ocean, a long time member), Rena Ryuuguu (Higurashi, a long time member), Alphonse Elric (2003 anime - with his body - a long time member), Uriko Nonomura (Blood Roar, a long time member), Killua (Hunter x Hunter), Misa Amane (Death Note), Taichi Yagami (Digimon), Shinpachi Nanakura (Peacemaker Kurogane), Rika (Higurashi), Hanyuu (Higurashi), Shion (Higurashi), Yuzu (Devil Survivor), Atsuro (Devil Survivor), Miu Matsuoka (Strawberry Marshmallow), Naoki (protagonist of SMT Nocturne), Vash (Trigun), Mikage (07-Ghost), Mammon (Reborn), Keiichi Maebara (Higruashi), Kotori (X), Ahiru (Princess Tutu), Razette (07-Ghost) Arthur Dent (Hitchhiker's Guide), Mike Nelson (Mystery Science theater 3000), and Tear Grants (Tales of the Abyss). There were other members such as Osaka (Azumanga Daioh), Mikey (Teenage Mustant Ninja Turtles), Ritsuka (Loveless), Yuzuriha (X), Zell (FF8), Hinata (Naruto), Mai (Avatar), an OC named Katie McCoy, Chibi-Usa (Sailor Moon), or Rue (Princess Tutu) but for the most part these were short-lived or by inactive-ish players. Shortly before dropping he'd also recruited Nightcrawler and Shadowcat from X-Men and Minako Arisato (the female P3P protagonist, played as the male protagonist's twin in Luceti).

...Phew that got long. Anyway aside from the Brigade Haruki has lived for years in the same house (Luceti's House 10) - for the most part until she dropped he lived with the Kyonko who apped in at more or less the same time as him. Their relationship deepened over time and for several months they were actually dating, having been made a couple due to a Valentines Experiment and pushing on from there. When she dropped he was depressed and infuriated, and came to know and live with Shiki Misaki (from The World Ends With You) who was similarly pining after a dropped Neku. The two got close and almost would have rebounded on each other if not for Minato Arisato (the protagonist of Persona 3, a longtime friend of Shiki's and not!friend of Haruki's) intervening and the Neku re-apping. Neku came to live with them after that, and him and Haruki on and off bonded. Those three (Kyonko, Shiki, and Neku) along with Rena Ryuuguu (who lived with them most of the time), Hanyuu (who lived with them some of the time), and for a brief spell Chikane (Kannazuki no Miko) made up the mainstay of Haruki's housemates. There were others, but most of them were short-lived or temporary things.

There was and is an trend of romance in Haruki's time at Luceti. As noted he was with Kyonko until she dropped and was almost with Shiki as rebound, but aside from those two he developed a crush on Usagi Tsukino (though she was dating Alphonse the majority of the time Haruki knew her), a thing with Rena Ryuuguu (which she vaguely reciprocated, but it never went anywhere), had some experiment-born moments with Chikane (KnM) and Mitsuru (Persona 3), and a few people (Uriko, Luka from Vocaloids) had a thing for him. Ultimately, though, after he got over his loss of Kyonko, Haruki's relationship with Winry Rockbell (FullMetal Alchemist) grew the most. He fell head over heels for her over time and finally confessed to her a few months before he dropped. The two dated during that time, growing closer until my unfortunate dropping time. He'll be coming in still very much in love with her.

Haruki being Haruki he also naturally made enemies and rivals. Hermione (Harry Potter) was one of his big school rivals, and OC named Paru was one of them too. In terms of enemies he encountered Sho Minamimoto (TWEWY) as one of the worst but also sincerely dislike Raphael (TMNT) despite him being Winry's friend and Joshua (TWEWY) despite him being Neku's. Additionally through a very complicated plot which isn't worth explaining he and Kamui (X) were on very, very bad terms, and to go along with Kamui was one of Kamui's friends, Duo Maxwell (Gundam Wing).

Some other CR of his includes Sokka (Avatar) who was the best friend of Winry and he knew in that capacity, Guy Cecil (Tales of the Abyss) who was a confidant of his, Shirley (Tales of Legendia), Walter (Tales of Legendia) who built things for him, KAITO (Vocaloids) who he became the new Master of eventually, Gokura (Reborn) a long time friend-enemy of his, Senel (Tales of Legendia) who he hated, Stella (Tales of Legendia) his wife who once won a pageant he threw, Emil (ToS2) who won another category of it, Patchouli Knowledge (Touhou) who won yet another, Rohan (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) who he read the Luceti Manga of and generally was amicable with, Buffy Summers (who he was never on good terms with), Adell (Disgaea), Katara (Avatar) who he knew mostly through Sokka, Makoto (Sailor Moon) who he knew through Usagi but liked a lot, Estelle (Tales of Vesperia) who he managed to hook up with Gokudera, Merlin (BBC) who he refused to accept as "Merlin" and thus called him "Jobe," Raine (Tales of Symphonia) who was his teacher, Gelda (Tales of the Abyss) one of his other teachers, Shina (Hetalia) who made things for him, and Arche (Tales of Phantasia). Aside from this he also knew big name village personalities in Luceti such as Albert Silverberg (Suikoden III) and others.

In his time in Luceti he also learned about his god powers. The first inclination he had of this was when he was kidnapped by the Malnosso for personal experimentation. His skull was drilled into to poke around in his brain for anything, and he came back with a large scar, even if the bone damage was healed. But when he actually learned it was when the Malnosso's reports on them were disclosed to the population, albeit encoded. Guy Cecil found it, Leon decoded it for him, but Haruki wouldn't see it for some time. When he did there was some fanfare, but ultimately not the world-ending consequences that the series predicted (mostly because he'd seen so much before then). The real big manifestation of his God powers was after a certain July dubbed "Hell Month" (because there were numerous player plots including Kefka sending down flaming trees on the village and Teases from D.Gray-Man killing people, including Usagi) went Haruki gave up on the world and sucked a lot of his CR into a Closed Space. Due to Luceti's 50% power level, the Closed Space lasted abnormally long (days) and was only ended by people getting through to him that there was no point trying to make a new and better world despite Luceti being awful.

Finally, it is worth noting his only "proper" canonmate was the Kyonko mentioned above. Every other canonmate Haruki got in his time there was from OU Haruhi, including several Haruhis (which were relatively short lived for the most part), a similarly short lived Yuki or two, a Ryoko, and a Kyon or two. Every one of them left a a little pang for him to be interested and later disturbed by alternate universes, but the worst of it was when one of the OU Kyons informed him that he was a member of Haruhi's SOS Brigade and not his own. Since then he's become increasingly possessive about people from his world or his people that he met in Luceti (having been there a long as he had he naturally experienced things like his friends being dropped and then picked up by a different player - thus coming back with no memories. This most notably happened with Rena Ryuuguu). The insistence that people's memories define who they are and that very variation is a unique individual played out with both of these cases as well as any AU event Luceti had in which people were turned into various AU versions of themselves.

Um. I'm not sure if that covers everything. If you want to look up his old entries they are imported on [personal profile] deusexhormones and I could try to make a timeline of events if needed too.

Personality: Haruki Suzumiya: brilliant but rejecting social standards, fun loving but tyrannical, energetic but easily bored. Frankly, this guy is a mass of minor contradiction that spin themselves into a portrait which, while not flattering, presents us with what is in many ways a normal teenager boy, albeit one which hates his own normality. ...But really he's just a fun loving guy who happens to be a mad overlord.

On the exterior, in Kyon's own words, Haruki is one of the most handsome boys you'll ever see as long as he keeps his mouth shut. The minute he opens it, or the minute a smirk comes on his face, you know something terrible (for everyone else) is liable to follow. Haruki hates the status quo of the world, or more specifically, he hates that he is swept up in it; that he is trapped is a complacent mundane existence. As such, he actively seeks out the strange and abnormal, particularly after the founding of the Brigade. Now that he's several months into its creation that is in full swing, and the world would probably be a much better place in his eyes if he could find aliens, time travels, sliders, or espers. Or indeed, anything which goes beyond the "normal" world around him.

It is worth noting, however, that in spite of rejecting this normal world externally, and wishing he could internally, he Does not think that the normal world is not reality. He does not really completely believe that aliens or espers or the like are real, but he WANTS OT BELIEVE (tm) and will say that he does. But he doesn't. he is a hopeful skeptic.

But even when he's not looking for those things (or forcing his minions to do so) he's coming up with ways or forcing his Brigade members to come up with ways to ensure entertainment and to prove the worth of the SOS-Brigade. Haruki is completely taken with the idea of ensuring the popularity of the Brigade (and therefore himself), but he extends that desire onto his "minions." While he might abuse them or use them in various ways he does genuinely care about making sure they have a good time... even if he rarely listens as to what their opinion of a good time might be. So, fun and ethos - a good show, right?

his virtues mostly come out of his flashes of genuine good will. Haruki is not a cruel person (or at least, not intentionally cruel - he often can be ignorant of other people's feelings and frankly not care about them, but he doesn't go out of he way to hurt others), and frankly will sometimes use his own power and influence and talents to help people out. Often, this helping out comes with some sort of price, but when it comes to the Brigade or when he's in a particularly good mood, he might be considerate of others too. He's just... really awkward about it. For a boy who rejects human interaction on a superficial level if it bores him (but is shocking not that antisocial!) Haruki is, as you might expect, reluctant to show too much of himself to others. he's also not used to being thanked, often blushing or getting otherwise flustered when people show his sincerity in a positive way.

...Basically, he's a tsundere. Just a very energetic and forward one about anything which isn't emotions or himself - he does not reveal anything about his personal life in the series aside form very specific instances, such as his story about his childhood for Kyon.

Haruki's two main issues are a desire not to grow up (and as such act childish, producing the effects one might expect in a child such as selfishness and a lack of accepting the consequences or responsibility for his own actions if he can in any way resist it), and playing hand in hand with that an utter terror at the idea of being a person who isn't important (in a way he's got an identity crisis, I suppose). As a result of both of these factors he has isolated himself from people (partially because they seemed like a waste of her time to being important and partially because he was afraid to try to get to know others beyond a superficial level because he hates opening up about himself) and basically dug her own hole so deep he didn't know how to get out of it until Kyon (in two different cases) basically gave her the balls to do it, because despite her gusto and bravado on the whole he's someone who finds himself falling on an ironic need for the approval of someone to validate her ideas.

From there, however, it does spiral downward all the way until you hit climactic points like the fourth novel as a whole because everyone who isn't Kyon frankly spoils his by humoring his own petty delusions. He main and most glaring flaw is, simply, entitlement born out of insecurity about the idea of not being special. So he's... a huge unabashed brat-hypocrite.

So, I've painted his vices and his virtues... but in the end what it must be remembered is that Haruhu Suzumiya is a work in progress. Even in the sparse months which have passed since he founded the Brigade, he grew as a person in the canon: he asks people if they have any objections to his plans now! (albeit he usually amends that they can "comment or suggest after we've finished") he has a strong worth ethic when it comes to school too. So, maybe he can grow, assuming that he becomes willing to these changes.

-And as a footnote, because I'm apping him with Haruki's Luceti memories, he has grown. He's gained much more sympathy for people and while most of his entitled nature remains superficially, he is at the core much more open to listening to other people and willing to admit to his own flaws. He's made a lot of grand steps forward when it comes to being a responsible and capable person. But um, the changes he has are a lot more complex and varied and such but most of them just boil down to hin getting a bit more open and used to making "friends" (something he never really made back home very well) and softening up his douche factor.

Powers: Haruki, like his canon counterpart, has the ability to bend reality to his whims as long as he believes something is possible and wishes for it to be so. There can be minor variations on either scale but these are the general rules. Usually, in RP, I play it mostly as an extreme form of luck working out for him, having only done a plot with some of the more intense manifestations (Closed Spaces, physically altering people or things) for player plots big (him attempting to destroy the world happened in Luceti) or small (making a store-bought chicken egg hatch because he was raising it as a baby for a health class). Unlike his canon counterpart Haruki is now aware that he has these powers due to the Malnosso report in Luceti, but he is no closer to controlling them on any practical level and thus tries not to give them a lot of thought.

Other Details: A big write up about where he was in Luceti is here. Also in Luceti he gained a several inches of height due to aging (see here) and a very distinct scar on his forehead he grows his bangs out to cover. While he is not keeping the Luceti wings, he is keeping the Luceti barcode on the back of his neck.
